Mrs. Maxine Thurmond, age 91 of Franklin, KY, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at 10:25 PM at The Medical Center in Franklin, KY. Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 4, 2019 with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, KY. Maxine was born August 16, 1927 in Franklin, KY to the late Cecil Moody and Irene Ryan Moody.

She was the wife of the late Leon “Pete” Thurmond. Maxine was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Ryan Moody and Billy Moody, two sisters Mary Louise Johns and Sara Gordon Freeland, two nieces Brenda and Jackie Freeland. Maxine is survived by a daughter Marsha Bess Spears (Jim) of Franklin, KY, a son Tom Kelly Thurmond (Martha) of Franklin, KY, grandchildren Kelly Thurmond Oldham (Robert), Sam Thurmond, Cindy Hodges (Steve), Tracy Watts (Mark), Jamie Spears (Ann), Shannon Spears (Amanda), 19 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 3, 2019 and from 6:00 AM until time of service Friday at Gilbert Funeral Home of Franklin, KY. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be made www.
