Obituary for Charles Leland Stromberg STROMSBURG—Charles Leland Stromberg, 88, of Stromsburg, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg. Pastor Keet Redden will officiate.

Interment will follow at Stromsburg Cemetery in Stromsburg with military rites by Stromsburg American Legion Post #132. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is serving the family. Charles was born August 2, 1929 to Bennard and Josephine (Lindquist) Stromberg in York, Nebraska.

He was active in many school activities including football, basketball, music, and singing. He graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1947. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.

He served as a high speed radio operator and saw active duty in WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in November 1951 at the rank of Sergeant.

Charles attended Barnes School of Commerce in Denver. After, he worked as an office manager at Firestone and general manager for Plant Protection at Hollomon Air Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico and Vandenburg Air Base in California. He also spent six years as a Santa Barbara County Deputy Sheriff/Deputy Coroner.

Charles was self-employed until his retirement in 2010. One of his interests included raising purebred Chow Chows and showing them all over the country. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vesta (Swanson) Stromberg; daughters, Cathy (Jim) McAulay and Cheri Macpherson; sons, Charles Alan (Sally) and Christopher (Colleen) Stromberg; brother, William Stromberg; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one nephew and four nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bennard and Josephine; brother, Allen; and infant son, Steven. Honorary pallbearers include Charles Alan Stromberg, Christopher Stromberg, Adam Macpherson, Jim McAulay, and Bryce Mansfield.
