The memorial service for Charles L. Oswald will be held 2:00 pm Sunday June10, 2018 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Rd. , Columbia, SC, 29204. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to Newberry College, 2100 College St., Newberry, South Carolina, 29108.

Inurnment will follow in the church’s memorial gardens. The family will greet friends following the services in the church parlor. Mr. Oswald died Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

Born in Lexington County, South Carolina, he was the youngest of 11 children of the late Willie P. and Berta Price Oswald. He attended the public schools of Newberry and graduated from Newberry College after serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He received a degree in accounting and economics in 1949.

Mr. Oswald pursued a special studies program in Human Services Administration at the University of South Carolina and the University of Alabama. He entered the market field after graduation with a Southeastern Corporation in a management training program. He accepted a transfer to Eastern Regional Offices, Colonial Stores Incorporated, Norfolk, Virginia as Assistant Chief Accountant in 1953, and appointed Chief Accountant two years later in 1955.

He was member of Virginia’s Cost Accountants Chapter as Vice-President and Secretary. Charlie was a charter member of the South Carolina Medicaid Program serving in the capacities of Bureau Chief and Divisional Director of Program Operations over a period of twenty-six years. He served on various committees with the South Carolina Hospital Association, South Carolina Medical Association, South Carolina Pharmacy Association, South Carolina Nursing Home Association,H and other health care providers.

His health care career provided recognition on a state wide and national basis. He was a member of the Southeastern Medicaid Administrators Association serving President of the Association in 1979. Surviving are his wife Linda W. Oswald; son LTC.

Paul A. Oswald (USA Retired) of Fredrick, Maryland; sister Doris Plyler, Columbia; Deborah Martin Ridgeway, South Carolina; two grandsons; three great granddaughters; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
