Charles R. Pierce, 74, of Anderson, passed away after a sudden illness on January 15, 2019. He was born on August 4, 1944 in Newton, Illinois and resided most of his life in Mattoon, IL. Chuck graduated from Mattoon High School in 1963.

He served his country for 22 years as a Staff Sergeant in United States Army, where he served in the Core of Engineers during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Indiana Reformatory in Pendleton, and retired after 16 years of service. He was a member of the Redeemer Baptist Church in Anderson, Anderson Solar Masonic Lodge #734, American Legion #127, Anderson Eagles #174, and a life member of the NRA.

Chuck was a Chicago Cub’s fan for over 50 years, loved to travel and be outdoors, but he especially loved spending time with his family. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Mary Hammers-Pierce; children, Larry (Heaven) Hammers of Anderson, Paul Hammers of Anderson, and Kay (Robert Lorenzoni) Hammers of Indianapolis; grandchildren, DeeAnna (Brad) Stuller, Adam (Betty) Hammers, Ta-Kara Hammers, Vanity Hammers, Deserai Hammers, Nick (Amber) Jidas, Gina Jidas, and Mykala Rodriguez; and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, David Pierce, and his side-kicks, Little Bit and Cookie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Velma E. Pierce; late wife, Wanda D. Pierce; and son, Anthony Pierce. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 17, 2019, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street Anderson, IN. Services will be Friday, January 18, 2019, 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor David Warren officiating.

Burial will take place in the Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protection League, 613 Dewey St., Anderson, IN 46016. www.
