Charles Sterling Chilcoat, of Terrell, passed away march 7, 2019 with family at his side. Charles was born Aug. 4, 1925 in Terrell to Clarence Edward, Sr. and Nellie Mae (Sealy) Chilcoat, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in passing by his beloved wife, Alma Ruth Chilcoat in 2004, grandson, Charles Christopher Chilcoat, siblings: Clarence and Fred Chilcoat, Lucille Graves and Katie Marie Smith and infant sister, Opal Chilcoat. Charles grew up in Terrell and graduated from Terrell High School after which he enlisted in the US Nave to proudly serve his country in WWII. After his discharge with honors, Charles attended SMU and Oklahoma University.

He then joined his family at their business, Chilcoat House Moving/Relocation and Chilcoat Ready Mix. The lessons learned in business with his family garnered Charles a respected reputation of professionalism and honesty. His attention to the details and his commitment to ensuring that each customer was well served helped grow the business.

Charles was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where he loved attending the Richard Hunter Men’s Sunday School class. He enjoyed any activity that involved his being able to use his hands to build and create projects like birdhouses and shutters for his home. Charles’ talent wasn’t limited to wood in that he also constructed a full concession stand from stainless steel!

He also enjoyed gardening and tending his flowers in his yard at home. Many times, Charles could be seen on his front porch and walking around his home, making sure that each plant, tree and shrub had exactly what they needed to grow beautifully. In 2006, he married Janice and their fondness and love for each other was easily seen by all.

A loving man with a smile for all, Charles will be missed by many. Charles leaves to cherish his legacy his wife, Janice Chilcoat, of Terrell; son, Dr. Curtis Chilcoat and wife, Theresa, of Plano; step-daughters: Julie Briscoe and husband, Brice, of Little Rock, AR, Christy McMillion and husband, Bobby, of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren: Staci Leigh Clinkscales and husband, Bryan, Jonathan Briscoe, Michael Briscoe, Brandon McMillion, and Christopher McMillion; great grandchildren: Hannah Leigh and Zane Christopher Clinkscales as well as nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, March 10, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Terrell.

His family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. There will be a committal service for Mr. Chilcoat at 9:00 am, Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Dallas/ Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
