Christopher Michael Clayton, age 30 of Seymour, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2018 at his home. Born November 24, 1988 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he was the son of Michael Raleigh Clayton and Matilda Sue Mellencamp. Chris was a member of the Praise Cathedral Church in Seymour.

He served in the National Guard and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He spent 8 years in the military having served in Iraq. He was the youngest in his industry and he was highly decorated.

He received his… Read More » diesel mechanic certificate while enlisted. Chris was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed fishing with a bow an arrow and boating.

He was a good dad and a great friend. Chris was always fun to be with and would do anything for anybody. Survivors include his parents, Matilda Mellencamp of Seymour and Michael (Belinda) of Gautier, Mississippi; his son, Kayleb Michael Clayton of Seymour, his sister, Christy Clayton of Seymour; his step brothers, Jason and Steven Clayton of Gautier, Mississippi; his maternal grandmother Evelyn Alice (Engleking) Acton; his niece Kelsey Elaine Clayton and several friends and other family members.

Christopher was preceded in death by his step father Jerry “Jay” Mellencamp; his paternal grandparents, Max and Mary Stuart; his maternal grandfather, John Frederic Carr. A celebration of life will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre with military honors to follow. Friends and family are welcome from 11:00am until time of service at the funeral home.
