Claire Denise (Howard) Marcus, age 87, of Evansville, IN passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Newburgh Health Care. Claire was born December 21, 1931, in Tulsa, OK, to Isaac Nelson and Catherine (McBrien) Howard. She attended Evansville College, Indiana State Teachers College and was a member at Crossroads Christian Church.

Claire worked at The Evansville Store for 27 years and later was a Pink Lady for St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a master gardener, enjoyed reading, getting her nails done, weekly hair appointments, and playing canasta, clabber, and bridge. She is survived by her children, Steven Layman of Bloomington, IN, Catherine Overby (Jim) of Evansville, Dan Layman (Rhonda) of Evansville, Mark Layman (Bernadette) of Saipan, and Susan Gay of Evansville; grandchildren, Mike Layman, Corey Overby (Amanda), Erin Overby, Kristen Layman, Joe Layman, Jared Layman (Katherine), Courtney Chevigny (Mark), Catie Stephens (Justin), Jacob Gay, Sofia Layman, and Marco Layman; 13 great grandchildren; best friend, Jeni Svestka, who helped with Claire’s care; and nieces, nephews, and many great friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert M. Marcus; grandson, Griffin Layman; and son-in-law, Greg Gay. Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville. Burial will be Private.

Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until service time, Sunday, December 30, 2018 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Vanderburgh Humane Society at 400 Millner Industrial Drive, Evansville, IN 47710.
