William Paul “Sonny” Coomes, 81, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Linda E. White Hospice House. Sonny was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 30, 1937 to the late William Paul and Mary Frances (Hyatt) Coomes. He honorably served in the United States Army and retired from Alcoa after 28 years of service.

Sonny was a member of First Baptist Church in Elberfeld and The Lessing Masonic Lodge 464. Sonny enjoyed fishing, skydiving, and riding his bicycle. … Read More » His greatest joy was from spending time with his family.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan (Edmonson) Coomes of Evansville, IN; his daughter, Mary Whitehead (Ed) of Elberfeld, IN; his brother, Charles Coomes (Judy) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Jessica Whitehead and Justin Whitehead; and two nephews, Chuck and Paul Coomes. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Charlene Armstrong. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave.

, Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor David Schulz officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday.
