Clara “Phyllis” (Holt) Anderson, 92 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City. She was born on November 7, 1926 in Bancroft, Kansas to Forrest and Grace (Heffner) Holt. Phyllis was raised in rural Kansas and graduated from high school at Wetmore, Kansas.
She continued her education receiving her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. Upon graduation, Phyllis married Robert “Bob” Anderson on April 28, 1946 and they moved to DuBois. To this union, one daughter was born, Connie.
She spent several years teaching at rural schools where she loved her pupils and their well-being was very important to her. Phyllis was an exceptional seamstress. She sewed outfits for cheerleaders, wedding ensembles and made her granddaughters wedding dress.
Phyllis didn’t mind when guys came with a stack of overalls that needed patched. When rural schools began consolidating, she gave up her beloved job teaching and went to work for many years at the bank in DuBois. After retirement from the bank, Bob and Phyllis were able to become “snowbirds” traveling to Arizona each winter until Bob’s health no longer permitted it.
Phyllis is survived by a daughter, Connie Royal and husband Robert of Liberty; grandchildren, Michael, Timothy and wife Sara, Patrick and wife Bridget, Johnna and husband Timothy; great grandchildren, James, Charles, Andrea, Elizabeth, Shawnna, Joshua, Presley, Brianna, Anastasia, Mathew, Krystal, Danyelle; sister-in-law, Helen Anderson of Pawnee City; brothers-in-law, Gene Anderson of Scranton, Kansas, Harlin Kocher of Onaga, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1997; sisters, Wanda Bausch, Leta Kocher; brothers, Lawrence, Russel; 4 brothers-in-law; and 4 sisters-in-law. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 1, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor Clayton Lundstedt officiating.
Phyllis didn’t like the cold and often said if she passed away during the winter, she did not want people standing out in the cold. Honoring her request, inurnment will be at a later date when there is warmer weather in the DuBois Cemetery near DuBois. A register book will be available from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice.
