Obituary for Clarice Elizabeth McCarthy Clarice Elizabeth (Stephanz) McCarthy, 77, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the Episcopal Church Home with her family at her side. She was born November 11, 1940, in Portsmouth, VA, daughter to the late Mathias Paul Stephanz and Clara Elizabeth (Hennig) Stephanz. Clarice was an office administrator for Second Presbyterian Church until her retirement in 2010.

She was a loving mother who enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and playing tennis, but her greatest treasure was her three grandsons. Clarice was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a proud former member of the United States Tennis Association. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Daniel R. “Danny” McCarthy; her siblings, Marguerite C. Wescott, Paul W. Stephanz, Edward W. “Buddy” Stephanz and Virginia L. “Ginny” Stephanz; and her best (canine) friend, “China”.

Clarice is survived by her children, Kathleen M. (Ken) Koburger and Andrew M. (Michele) McCarthy, and her grandsons, William Koburger, and Daniel and Patrick McCarthy. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, October, 6, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, in St. Matthews, followed by a brief memorial service at the funeral home. Burial will be private and she will be laid to rest next to her son in Calvary Cemetery.

A reception to celebrate Clarice’s life will be held following her burial, with details to be provided at the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Clarice’s name to the Episcopal Church Home (Marmion Neighborhood) or Hosparus Health of Louisville.
