Cleo L Edwards Jr, October 24, 1925 — May 07, 2019

Cleo L. Edwards, Jr, 93, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2019. He was born on October 24, 1925 in Dell, Arkansas to the late Cleo Sr. and Jannie (Rosemond) Edwards. He grew up in a rural community and worked in farming for over half of his life.

Cleo Edwards accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and remained a faithful and active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church until his illness. In 1949, he married Velma Burris. They were married for over 35 years and had 5 children.

They moved to Anderson, Indiana in 1974 and Cleo was employed at McDonalds and the Madison County Courthouse for over 25 years before retiring. Cleo was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed playing checkers, miniature golf, shooting pool and helping out family and friends.

Cleo is survived by his five children, Marcelle Edwards and Teressa (Anthony) Walker of Anderson; Larry (Dawn) Edwards of Gulfport, MS; Donald Edwards and Karen (Rev. John Jr.) Woodall of Indianapolis: five grandchildren, John III, Jordan and Janelle Woodall, Marcelle Jr. and Marlon Edwards; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Georgia Edwards of Chicago and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. Cleo was the youngest of five children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Otis and Frank Edwards; two sisters, Mattie L. Matthews and Marietta Clemmons-Stewart; grandson Brandon Walker. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our church family at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and to the staff at Riverwalk Village for their care and support during Cleo’s illness and during this period of our bereavement. Services will be held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1540 West 16th Street, Anderson, on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12:00pm with the Rev.

Dr. Edgar M. Woodall officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00am- 12:00pm Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
