Clifton H. Garland, 48, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home. He was born in Durham, NC and was the son of Fransco H. Garland (Shirley Sutphin), Helen Ricker Carlsen, and the late Martin Carlsen. In addition to his parents, Clifton was preceded in death by his grandparents: George and Amalee Garland, and Hillard and Ruth Ricker.

Clifton was a volunteer firefighter with the Parkwood Fire Dept. and Steele Creek Fire Departments, both in North Carolina. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity at Mars Hill College.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish Clifton’s memory include his step-sister, Crystal Weaver, his fiancé, Nola Mata, her children and grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. The family will greet friends to share memories on Friday, January, 25, 2019 from 5:00 pm until a Celebration of Clifton’s life at 7:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services Johnson City with Rev. Randy English officiating.

A Graveside and Committal Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to By Faith Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund 1903 Cherokee Road Lot 19 Johnson City, TN 37604.
