Melvina “Nell” Rich Cantrell, 87 of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City, TN. Born in Huntsville, AL she is the daughter of the late Valter and Mottie (Ward) Rich. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Mason Cantrell; sisters, Gertrude York and Lois Hartbarger; brothers, Clyde Rich and Alfred Rich; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Lee Cantrell.

Nell is a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Jonesborough, TN. As a military wife she was active in volunteering in the church and her community. Nell enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening and traveling.

Those left to cherish Nell’s memory include: daughters, Brenda Carolyn Harris (Dennis), Peggy Joyce Cantrell (Michael Barroso); son, George Russell Cantrell; grandchildren, Stephanie Hart (Richard), Cindy Dziurzynski (David), Andrew Cantrell-Sharkey, Henry Cantrell (Anne) and Zinnia Cantrell; great-grandchildren: Harrison Dziurzynski, Reilly Dziurzynski, and Levi Cantrell; sisters, Alene Campbell, Helen Bean, and Florene Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital for all of their care. The family will gather to receive friends in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, TN on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 2:00 PM until a celebration of Nell’s life beginning at 3:00 PM with Pastor Mark Harrod and Mr. Tony Maden officiating.
