Obituary for Betty Jane Bowman Betty Jane Bowman – 87 years of age, of Johnson City, passed away after a seven month battle with bone cancer at Cornerstone Village. Betty Jane was born in Russell County, Virginia on August 29, 1941 to Sarah and James Monroe Smith. Betty Jane was a registered nurse and worked in the offices of Dr. Peterson and Dr. Norris in Erwin, TN and then had a long career at the Johnson City Medical Center (Ballad Health).

She was an active member of Wesley Memorial UMC and she loved her church family. After retiring, she volunteered at the old Johnson City Senior Center for years performing blood pressure checks. She also volunteered on Tuesday mornings in the gift shop at the Johnson City Medical Center with her sidekick and friend, June Wood, until February of 2018 when she became ill.

Betty Jane enjoyed reading, going out to eat with her friends and attending ETSU football and basketball games. Betty Jane was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Noah Bowman, and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, James (Jimmy) and wife Mary Bowman of Johnson City.

One sister, Paula Inskeep, Cawker City, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. Betty Jane had two special nieces that she thought of as daughters; Jeanne Brewer and Sarah Key. A special thank you to Brenda Davidson, who was one of her earth angels and to the medical and support staff at Cornerstone Village and Caris Healthcare.

The family of Betty Jane Bowman will receive friends from 12 pm – 1 pm on Saturday, January 12th, 2018 at Wesley Memorial UMC. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm with the Rev. Gerald Casson officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Duard Aldridge Sunday School Class and her neighbors at Regal Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Wesley Memorial UMC, 225 Princeton Rd. , Johnson City, TN 37601.
