Mary Evelyn Carden Arnold, age 86, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the residence of her daughter, following an extended illness. Mary was born in Carter County to the late Chris and Cora Buckles Carden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Leonard “Mutt” Arnold; four brothers, Walter Carden, Delmar Carden, Roy Carden and Condon Carden; and a sister, Ola Jane Carden.

Mary was a loving mother and grandmother, who was devoted to her family. She was of the Free Will Baptist faith and enjoyed quilting. Those left to cherish her wonderful memories include three daughters, Evelyn Marie Parlier, of Elizabethton, Geneva Jean Humphrey and husband Gaither, of Piney Flats and Barbara Lynn Nidiffer and husband Wayne, of Watauga; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and two special sons-in-law, Joe Carrier and Allen Parlier.

A service to celebrate and honor the life of Mary Evelyn Carden Arnold will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Laban Carrier, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday. The graveside service will follow in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and her granddaughters. The family would like to especially thank the doctors and staff of Sun Crest Hospice for the loving care shown to Mary during her illness. Online condolences may be shared with the family on our website, www.
