Nelle Eads Patecell Glover of Bluff City and Johnson City passed away suddenly on February 13, 2019. Born to Carl and Mary Eads in August of 1922, Nelle was the second of four children in her family. An accomplished student, she graduated from high school early and was recruited from a business college in Bristol for a government job as a payroll clerk in Washington, D.C. in its bustling days leading up to America’s entrance to World War II.

This opportunity turned out to be the experience of a lifetime for a young small-town girl and she often spoke of her memories of her time spent there. After marrying Douglas Patecell from Springfield, Ohio in 1943, they began a series of residential moves that resulted in each of their five children being born in a different state. But Nelle’s Tennessee roots and those beloved hills and mountains had a strong pull on her, so strong in fact, that the family moved from Indiana to Bluff City in 1963 when she inherited the house where she was born.

After twenty years, Nelle had come home and was happy to be back among so many of her relatives and friends. After working many years in a variety of jobs including ones at the Census Bureau in Indiana and the VA Center in Johnson City, she enjoyed retirement, which enabled her to spend more time in her favorite past times of sewing, quilting, and reading. Like many women of her era, she was a good cook who could make a tasty meal while sticking to a budget.

But her greatest joys came from loving and serving her family and her Savior Jesus Christ. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bluff City where her children were baptized, her two daughters were married and she taught a women’s Bible Study Class for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Douglas Patecell and her second husband Worley Glover, two sisters; Maxie Sams and Trixie Hicks, one brother; M.D. Eads.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son; Derran Patecell (Wilma) of Flintstone, GA, daughter; Cheryl Wexler of Johnson City, TN, Donna Maples (Carl) of Roswell, GA, sons; Douglas “Ted” Patecell (Carol) of Arlington, VA, David Patecell (Leslie) of Taylors, SC, grandchildren; Tom Wexler (Sandy), Sara Wexler, Marc Maples (Renee), Mandy Maples, Josh Patecell, Sam Patecell, Ryan Patecell, Kelsey Patecell, great-grandchildren; Mallory Maples, Eliza Maples, Caroline Maples, Riley Kate Wexler, Ben Wexler, Abby Wexler and Ellie Wexler, niece; Linda Hicks. A service to honor Nelle’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Bluff City First Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Pope officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN.

Pallbearers will be Tom Wexler, Marc Maples, David Patecell and Derran Patecell, Ted Patecell. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Shelby Head and Sue Tucker for their loving care. Online condolences may be shared with the family on our website, www.
