I married a good man. A man who said and did all the big and little things to make me feel beautiful, loved and appreciated. A man who got me (which wasn’t always easy!

) and brought out the best in me better than anyone. A man who lightened my moods and made my days easier, and my life sweeter in every possible way. You were a good man, an amazing husband and loved with all my heart.

Carl Ronald Hughes died February 23, 2019. He was born in Saltville, Virginia to Walter and Lillie Kate (Taylor) Hughes. He retired from the Navy.

Dearly loved by family and friends, Carl was often given the nickname Humorous Hughes by family members for his sense of humor that added a bright spot to their lives. He found great pleasure in baking cookies for people that were special to him as a way to let them know of his love and appreciation for them. He looked forward to his annual hunting trips with his brother Richard and enjoyed gardening, occasional trips to the casino, watching Nascar racing, football, and spending time with family and friends.

He went out of his way to help a friend in need. Carl was preceded in death by his brothers: Curtis, Robert, Roger and Clayton; and sister, Corine. He is survived by his wife, Margie, daughters: Melanie Forti, Cynthia Hughes; grandchildren: Mallory Forti, Nicholas Forti, Brendan Forti, Justine Forti, and Giovanni Cardillo; brother, Coy Richard (Darlene) Hughes, sisters: Carol Cook, Connie (Thomas) Taylor, Clara (William) Ledford, Catherine Mannix; and several nieces and nephews.
