Obituary for Teresa Elfriede Whetsell Teresa Whetsell, age 62 of Piney Flats, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 in her home, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 19, 1956 in Charleston, West Virginia, the eldest daughter of Christa Dison of Watauga, Tennessee. Teresa was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School.

She received an Honorable Discharge from the US Navy in November of 1984. After serving her country, she enrolled at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in middle grade education. Upon graduation in May of 1993 with magna cum laude honors, she moved to Virginia and taught language arts and math at John J. Wright Middle School in Spotsylvania County for four years.

Upon her return to the Johnson City Area, she was employed at the Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center. Always cheerful and willing to help others, she developed many cherished and lasting friendships at her place of work. Her passion for animals was strong and her charity unending.

It was her selfless nature to help others and in passing will continue the trend through charitable donations. She fought the good fight; she is now at peace in her heavenly home, welcomed by countless wagging tails. She is survived by her mother Christa Dison, two sisters, Diana Duncan (Norman) and Alisa Krell (Tim), her brother, Keith Dison (Debbie) her aunt Marianne Kaukuris, her nieces; Amanda Hollifield, Audrey Jarrett, Amber Ebarb, Daphanie Parham and a nephew, Cody Dison.

She is also survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. At Teresa’s request, there will be no services. However, charitable donations may be made to the Johnson City Humane Society or the Johnson City Animal Shelter.
