Obituary for Connie Lou McNerney Connie L. McNerney, age 88, of Clare, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 while surrounded by her family. Connie was born the daughter of Harold Bell and Blanch Freda (Branscum) Wright.

They moved to Clare when Connie was in the 8th grade. She married Joseph McNerney on Oct. 21, 1950 and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1994.

Connie had worked for the Allen Insurance Agency in Clare for many years as a secretary. She was a member of the Clare United Methodist Church. When her boys were young, she had been involved in Scouting as a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Connie was always in attendance at her boys sporting events, and was usually one of the loudest supporters and spectators. She loved bowling and playing cards, and had served her community as the chairperson of the City Parks and Recreation Board. Connie was heavily involved in the establishment of Clare’s Stamina Stadium complex.

She had been a member of the Clare Business and Professional Women’s Assn. , the Clare Moose Lodge, the Clare Women’s Softball League, where she also had served as an umpire, and was a huge U of M fan. Connie is survived by her children, Steven M. (Kimberly) McNerney of Kentwood, Mi, Dennis P McNerney, and Bernard D. McNerney both of Clare, her six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, her sister, Sandra Lee Glenn of California, and her nephew, Mike Glenn of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1994, her special friend, Vernon Monatague in 2012, and her grandson, Joseph in 2016. At her own request, cremation has occurred and a graveside memorial service will be held at Cherry Grove Cemetery in the summer of 2019. The arrangements are in the care of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
