Obituary for Consuelo Rae “Connie” Avila Print Garden City- Consuelo Rae “Connie” Avila, 97, died on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at her home in Garden City. She was born on November 18, 1921 at Gordon, Texas the daughter of Pedro & Maria (Segovia) Rae. She married Ignacio R. “Buck” Avila on January 7, 1942 at Garden City.

He died on September 21, 2006. Connie grew up in St Paul, Minnesota and moved to Garden City in 1939. As a young adult she did field work and caretaker work before going to work for Garden City High School.

Connie and her husband were very active in the community in mentoring kids in the Garden City boxing program. She also enjoyed dancing, painting, garage sales and following Buck in softball. She was a member of St Dominic Catholic Church and the G.I. Forum Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 4 Brothers & 1Sister. She is survived by her Son- Robert Avila of Wichita, 2 Grandchildren- Kristi Kells of Garden City and Brandon Avila of Derby, 3 Great-Grandchildren- Brooklyn Avila, Destiny Avila & Breyanna Avila and 3 Step-Great-Grandchildren- Halle Rico, Lucas Rico & Kendyl Rico. Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Monday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Tuesday at St Dominic Catholic Church with Rev Warren Stecklein as Celebrant.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 PM Sunday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday at Garnand Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
