On June 20, 2018 at his home in Redmond, Oregon. A celebration of life will be held in Hollister, CA in 2019. Cruz was born in Salinas, CA to Cruz R. Bocanegra and Charlotte A. Sotello on March 3, 1950.

He grew up in Hollister and graduated from San Benito High in 1969. He moved to Oregon in 2002. His love for family, friends, humor, cooking, and music will live forever in the hearts of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children Adam Bocanegra (Angie), Andrea Grundstrom (Adam), Gloria Bocanegra, and Cruz Bocanegra III. His grandchildren Andrew Bocanegra, Deziray Bocanegra, Denyse Bocanegra, Joe Garcia, Celina Garcia, Gabriel Garcia, Damian Garcia, Jorge Pacheco, Danyel Bocanegra, Angel Hernandez, Jayden Bocanegra, Kristopher Hernandez, Cruz Bocanegra IV, Riyan Weaselhead, Devey Lawrence. Great grandchildren Hazel Bocanegra, Halle Carlton, and Myles Cosio.

Siblings Diana Loyola, John Bocanegra (Virginia), Emily Villalon, Gloria Braun(Lee),Vera Powers (Wayne), Mark Garcia (Marcela), Sylvia Gleason (Dan), Marcey Bocanegra (Keith), David Bocanegra (Georgina), Jesse Bocanegra, Angela Bocanegra (Jeff), Amber Bocanegra (Carl) and many nieces and nephews. Cruz is preceded in death by parents Cruz R. Bocanegra and Charlotte A. Sotello, And his sister Dora Bocanegra. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, and encouragement during this time.
