Dana’s Obituary Dana Chaussee, 71, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away doing what he loved in Winner, SD turkey hunting on April 24, 2019. Dana was born with a bow and arrow in his hand, ready to hunt and fish on December 21, 1947 in Sioux City, IA to Earl and Ruth Chaussee. Dana grew up in McCook Lake, SD and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967.

During his time in High School Dana loved playing football. He and his team set many school records in athletic events. After graduating High School, he volunteered and joined the Army to proudly serve in the Vietnam War for four years.

When Dana returned to the United States, he went to work for Velie Outdoor Advertising in Sioux City, IA. When working on signs a cute, young girl, named Marilyn Katseres, would drive by and wave at Dana. This lovely lady quickly became the love of his life and the two were married on August 15, 1975.

After the marriage the couple was blessed with the arrival of their daughter Kelly on November 13, 1976. The family lived in McCook Lake for approximately two years and then moved to Sioux City, IA where Dana worked for Sioux Tools/Hydraulic Sales and Service. In 1985 the love of his life, Marilyn, got her dream job as a flight nurse at Sioux Valley Hospital, which lead the family to relocate to Brandon, SD.

Dana took a new job at Pace Manufacturing in Brandon, which is now Gates Manufacturing. Dana was a multi-state, national, and world archery champion. In 2009 the President of the NFAA chose Dana to represent the United States on the team shoot.

The team placed 3rd place. In Dana’s free time he was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. Dana loved to hunt deer, elk, bear, antelope, and turkeys.

If Dana wasn’t actually hunting, he was talking about hunting. Other hobbies and loves included spending time with his family, friends, his bonfire group, being a mentor to new hunters and painting. Dana’s paint skills made Bob Ross look like an amateur.

Dana also loved playing basketball. The family has fond memories of scooping the snow in December in order to shoot hoops. Dana was amazing at making new friends.

He was able to make new friends with people of all ages. Strangers and friends were drawn to his outgoing, and kind personality. Survivors include daughter, Kelly (Will) Crichton; four grandchildren, Nickolas Satter , Melissa, Mason and Daniel Crichton; sisters Sheila (Greg) Johns, Patty (Steve) Beatty; and brother in law Jim Kleinhesselink.

Dana is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, sister Kim Kleinhesselink, his parents Earl and Ruth, and nephew Travis Copple. Visitation will take place at Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with Dana’s funeral service taking place at Heritage Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. the following day, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 with burial and military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA.
