Obituary for Daniel Walsh Sr Mr. Daniel E. Walsh, Sr., age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. , died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
Dan was born June 26, 1926 in Jefferson City, Mo. the son of James J. and Mary F. Swillum Walsh. He was married to Dora L. Melton who preceded him in death in September, 1976.
He was married on April 28, 1979 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Virginia L. O’Neal. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Dan graduated from Immaculate Conception School.
He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17, serving in four invasions during World War II (Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Iheya Shima & Aguni Shima). He was a motor machinist on a LCI 995 ship in the Pacific Theatre. Dan was most proud of his military service and was honored to be a member of the Central Missouri Honor Flight in 2013.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Basinger/Sone Post 1003 and a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Dan was employed as a duplicating printer operator with the Office of Administration Central Printing for 42 years prior to his retirement in 1991. Dan loved the outdoors; his many hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and keeping up with local and world news.
Survivors include: his wife of thirty-nine years, Virginia L. Walsh; three children, Daniel E. Walsh, Jr. and his significant other, Carla Kniper of Syracuse, Mo. , Mary G. Ridenhour and her significant other, Clinton Mike Weider of Jefferson City, Mo. , and David G. Walsh and his wife Angie of Holts Summit, Mo.
; two step-sons, Joe O’Neal of Raymore, Mo. and Rich O’Neal and his wife Vera of Westerville, Oh. ; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings and his first wife. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Tammy Kanatzar officiating.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Central Missouri Honor Flight, or the Capital Region Medical Center Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
