Funeral services for Daphna (Brashears) Whitehead, 91, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitehead was born March 19, 1927 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Richard Filmore Brashears and Esther (Havard) Brashears, and died Monday, May 14, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Whitehead was a loving wife and mother. She loved to fish, crochet, and tend to her flowers.

Mrs. Whitehead also was a wonderful homemaker and a great cook. She was a member of McKindree Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitehead is survived by her daughter, Beth Versland of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Linwood (L.C.) and Jennetta Whitehead of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Doris Jean and Beamon Calhoun of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Eddy Wayne and Dora Whitehead of Lufkin; grandchildren, Melissa Williams, Lance Hall, Tanya Whitehead, Aundria Barrett, Luther Whitehead, Michael Whitehead and wife, Shea, Kayce Scheffler and husband, Doug, and Corey Calhoun; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Brashears of Lufkin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of almost 73 years, Louther Clovis Whitehead; brothers, Richard Brashears and James Hollis Brashears; and sister, Ruby Flurry. The family would like to extend special thanks to Tanya Whitehead, her granddaughter and caretaker. Special memorials may be made to the Texas Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 309, Waxahachie, Texas 75168 or to the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin. Shafer Funeral Home, directors.
