David Henry Jacobs March 27, 1936 ~ October 29, 2018 David Henry Jacobs passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2018 as a result of pancreatic cancer. He was born on March 27, 1936 at the old Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah to Briant Stringham and Margaret Bingham Jacobs. He grew up in Davis County and had many great friends and memories of his childhood and youth.

He graduated from Davis High School in 1954. He received his Associate degree from Weber College, Bachelor’s degree from the U of U, and Master’s degree from BYU. He served an honorable fulltime LDS Mission in Southern California and served 8 years in the Navy Reserves.

David married Bonnie Draper in the Salt Lake Temple on October 29, 1959. David was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings with teaching Gospel Doctrine as his favorite. He also served as Bishop of the University 5th Ward and served on six different High Councils.

He served as a volunteer EMT and fire fighter for Layton City for 6 years. He was employed for 38 years with the LDS Church Education System in the Ogden area and Fresno, California and loved the students, faculty and every day of his teaching. After his retirement he taught weekly BYU Adult Education classes for 10 years.

David and Bonnie were tour directors for Faldmo Tours and Morris Murdock Escorted Tours for 25 years where they had the opportunity of meeting many wonderful people and seeing many places around the world. A big thanks to Morris Murdock and the girls in the office: Dani, Wendy, Sarah, and Karen. They were all so fun and wonderful to work with.

David was an active member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers Ogden Chapter where he served as President, also as a National Area Vice President. David enjoyed traveling, riding his Harley, boating, water/snow skiing, and reading. He also enjoyed fancy cars and he always kept his clean, inside and out.

Even at 82 years old it was difficult for him to not race when someone came up along side of his car and revved their engine. He got more than his share of speeding tickets over the years because of a heavy foot and the urge to race! He loved to joke around and always had a good, clean funny joke to tell.

He enjoyed people and was a great visitor. We are going to miss his quick wit, happy, fun, and positive personality. Most of all, David loved his family which include his wife, Bonnie; 4 children: Lori (Roger Frischknecht), Royce (Taunya) Jacobs, Lance (Kaari) Jacobs, and Lane (Shannon) Jacobs, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

David had one sister, 4 older brothers, and his parents who all preceded him in death. We want to thank everyone for their love, support, and kindness to the family. A big thank you to Dr. Kyle Eliason, Dr. Doug Adler, Carole Draper, and Inspiration Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace West Stake Center, 125 E. 5350 S. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers David suggests that you get a funny joke book and entertain your family and friends!
