David Neil (Nick) Wells December 17, 1943 – January 30, 2019 Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card David Neil (Nick) Wells Gaffney, SC – – David Neil (Nick) Wells, 75, passed away on January 30, 2019 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born on December 17, 1943 in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Dorothy Earls Wells and the grandson of S. B. and Wilma Whelchel Earls. Before his graduation from Gaffney High School, he was co-captain of the 1961 South Carolina State Football Championship team.

He was inducted into the Gaffney High School Football Hall of Fame in 1982. He was the co-owner of Cherokee Acoustics and CA Supply. In his service to the community, he served on the boards of the Robert Prevatte Scholarship Foundation and the Salvation Army.

For many years, he and his wife delivered for Meals-On-Wheels. In his love of the Lord, he donated or helped to build several churches and was a member of New Harvest Church of God. Nick had a big heart, offering both encouragement and financial help to many over the years.

It’s difficult to describe all that he was and cared for. Fishing on the beach with his ‘boys” or catching a striper at the lake in the coldest weather was one or his greatest joys. His quick humor has made for many a good story.

Caring for stray cats and dogs, feeding the birds, squirrels, and even the neighborhood raccoon reflected his concern for all of God’s creatures. Looking beyond that old faded shirt and those often “duct-taped” shoes, you saw a man who stood firm in his beliefs, who loved his family, who had great compassion. Nick is survived by his wife of 55 years Pat Ramsey Wells, a son, David M. Wells and wife Beth, a daughter Wendy Wells; four grandsons, Cody Price and wife, Amber, Nicholas Wells, Robert Gallagher and Grayson Wells; two great-grandsons, Alec and Jaxen Price.

Also surviving are his sister Dawn Wells Bridges and husband Eddy, a brother Earl Wells and wife, Linda, brothers-in-law Lee Ramsey and wife Lynn and Gerry Townsend, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from until 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at New Harvest Church of God. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Church with Rev.

Robert Wells officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cherokee County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2223, Gaffney, SC 29342 or Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342.
