Obituary for David M. Roberts Heading: David M. Roberts (U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran) David “Dave” Milburn Roberts, 71, of Duncan, SC passed away Sunday, June 10 at Pelham Medical Center after enjoying time with his immediate family and many family friends. David was the son of the late Milburn Lewis and Pauline Stacy Roberts of Lynchburg, VA and is survived by his wife, Jeanne Anderson Roberts of Duncan, SC; his son, Richard Winfield Roberts of Atlanta, GA; his daughters, Melissa Roberts Donovan of Dunwoody, GA and Stephanie Starnes Roberts-Smith (Eric Smith) of Johns Creek, GA; his cherished grandchildren, Jacob Anderson Donovan, William McGrath Donovan, and Chloe Jeanne Smith; his sister, Elaine Roberts Whitcher (late Dr. John Whitcher) of Green Valley, AZ and his brother, Joseph Arthur Roberts of New York; and his brother-in-law, Dr. William Richard Anderson (Nancy Grisham Anderson) of Montomery, AL. David was also fortunate to have the love and support of family and friends throughout the country.

Born in Lynchburg, VA and raised in Springfield, NJ, David proudly lived the majority of his life in Columbia, SC. He was a 1969 graduate of Lynchburg College with a B.A. in Dramatic Arts, followed by a full fellowship to Penn State for graduate work in the Fine Arts. David was proud to have had a close-knit group of Lynchburg College theatre friends with which he shared many years of amazing memories.

During this fellowship, he was called to serve our country in 1970. David was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran having received a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He was honored to have been presented with The Quilt of Valor by his Band Of Brothers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

These brave men also served our country and became a much needed family of support for David in his later years. He was a retired employee of GlaxoSmithKline and a longtime member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery where he will finally be Welcomed Home.
