David W. Klaproth, 76, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Santa Rosa, CA. He was born March 31, 1943, in Palm Beach, FL to Clarence and Eileen Klaproth. He married Jane Mitchell in Chicago, IL.

During his youth, he loved scouting and attained the highest honor of Eagle Scout. David was a 1961 graduate of Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau, MO. He received a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri in 1966.

Upon graduation, he moved to Chicago IL and had a successful career in advertising. After the birth of their two daughters, the family decided to relocate to a smaller community and chose Carbondale, IL. He and his wife co-owned and operated a Mail Boxes Etc.

for 20 years. Upon retirement, David moved to Santa Rosa, CA to be closer to his family. A man of many talents, David was an accomplished artist, photographer and writer.

He had a short story published in the magazine, University Man, in 1987. He enjoyed sailing the Caribbean Sea and canoed the Boundary Waters. David was an avid reader, loved flower gardening and cooking.

He could slow cook beef brisket and port butt that would make the best BBQ chefs in the country envious, and he was never far from his box of Bisquick, his favorite topping for campfire stew, one of his specialties. David was a member of Thanksgiving Lutheran Church in Santa Rosa, CA. He lived a full life, dearly loved his family and friends, and will be sorely missed.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Molly Klaproth of Sebastopol, CA and Elizabeth Klaproth of Forestville, CA, one sister, Susie (Dan) Seib, and one grandson, Rumi. David was preceded in death by his parents. A beachfront celebration of life is planned in CA.

In Cape Girardeau, MO, visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Breite officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
