Obituary for David Wayne Matthews David Wayne Matthews, 64, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home. He was born February 22, 1954 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Walter John and Margaret Lee “Inky” Tichenor Matthews. David was a 1972 Cape Central High School graduate.

He then served 2 years in the Marines. After his military service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University. He was a substance abuse counselor in Owensboro.

David lived most of his life in Owensboro and Cape Girardeau. His love for his son, family, friends, Kentucky basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball was his favorites. Survivors include a son, David Wayne Matthews of Harrisburg, Illinois; three brothers, Walter Lee (Cathy) Matthews of Jackson, Missouri, Mark (Susan) Matthews of Cape Girardeau and J.B. (Kim) Matthews of Cape Girardeau; and one sister, Melody (Jeff) Rafferty of Owensboro, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no public service. There will be a celebration of life ceremony in Owensboro and Cape Girardeau at a later date.
