Obituary for Marilyn Kinsey Veda Marilyn Powell Kinsey died Sunday, October 14, 2018 surrounded by family at her son’s home while being cared for, for a brief period of time in Thompsonville, IL. The youngest of six children, Marilyn was born November 1, 1932 in Beaucoup Township, IL to Waldo and Veva (Walker) Powell. Upon graduating from Centralia Township High School, she and Duane Alfred Kinsey were married July 23, 1950 in Centralia, IL.

In 1954 they moved to the Kinsey farm in McClure, IL where they lived and raised their six children. For most of her adult life, Marilyn was a well accomplished seamstress having worked at Rust and Martin Bridal Salon, Beginnings Bridal, Precious Memories, Hecht’s and did alterations for various Cape Girardeau clothing stores. Marilyn sewed for family and friends making clothes from beginning to end and could alter any clothing item imaginable.

Marilyn was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau and played an active roll as a Sunday school teacher and piano player for small children’s classes, sang in the church choir, United Methodist Women and the Grace Church SEMO Fair fish stand. Marilyn was a member of Home Extension, was a 4-H leader, and past president of the Shawnee High School Band Boosters. Marilyn is survived by six children, Patricia Baldwin of McClure, IL, Barbara Kinsey, Linda (Wynn) Bollinger, Wesley (Ann) Kinsey of Cape Girardeau, David (Fran) Kinsey of Thompsonville, IL, and Susan (Scott) McClanahan of Cape Girardeau.

She is further survived by grandchildren Laura (Craig) Hutson of Jackson, MO, Sarah Morgan of Christopher, IL, Tarah (Stevie) Battaglia of Mulkeytown, IL, Christa (William) Zickfield of Cape Girardeau, Nathaniel (Ariel) Kinsey of Richmond, VA, Ross McClanahan of Columbia, MO, Truman Kinsey of Columbia, MO, Annie Kinsey of West Frankfort, IL and Lexie McClanahan of Denver, Colorado, and great grandchildren Gunnar and Charlie Battaglia, Marlie Morgan, Olivia and Leighton Zickfield, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, in 2014, a son-in-law Doyle Baldwin in 2001, her parents and five siblings, C. Kenneth Powell, Mabel K. Whitton, Dorothy Dude, Howelene Watterson and Waldo Powell, Jr. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church, Cape Girardeau and also one hour prior to the funeral service. A funeral service and Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at the church with Pastor’s Doug Olson and Eric Schmidt officiating.

Burial will be at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, IL. Pallbearers will be family members Nathaniel Kinsey, Ross McClanahan, Truman Kinsey, Stevie Battaglia, William Zickfield and Craig Hutson, with Gunnar Battaglia as honorary pallbearer. Expressions of sympathy and memorials may take the form of contributions to Lindsey Cemetery Fund and Grace United Methodist Church.
