David L. Perez, 59-years-old and a lifelong resident of Salinas, California, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 with his family by his side due to a lengthy illness. David, the eldest of five brothers was born in Salinas to Gonzalo and Reynalda Perez on July 25th, 1959. David was an Eagle Scout, which is the highest honor attainable of the Boy Scouts of America.

He graduated from Palma High School in 1978 where he excelled in wrestling and became a state high school championship qualifier. David also received a full-ride wrestling scholarship to San Jose State University. He spent his career in produce distribution and worked at Fresh Delivery in Salinas for 22 years.

David was dearly loved by family and friends for his sociable personality, and his warm and neighborly attitude toward all. David’s favorite pastimes included spending time with his grandchildren, playing sports, and doing outdoor activities, like camping at Thousand Trails or Arroyo Seco, and barbequing. He loved spending time with his family and friends, playing basketball and football at the park, and watching high school wrestling.

He was a passionate Oakland A’s, Celtics, and Rams fan. David is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marlene Gonzalez, six daughters, Priscilla Castillo, Kristina Perez, Sabrina Hernandez, Cynthia Gonzalez, Rebecca Perez-Gonzalez, and Veronica Perez-Gonzalez, seven grandchildren, Adela Hernandez, Alyssa Castillo, Makayla Hernandez, Aliyah Suarez-Perez, Nevaeh Castillo, Tristan Castillo, and David Hernandez, his mother, Reynalda Perez, and brothers, Gonzalo Perez, Jr. and Jesse Perez. He was predeceased by his father, Gonzalo Perez, and his two brothers, Samuel Perez and Juan Perez.

Visitation will be held 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901 Rosary will be 7:00p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Struve and Laporte Chapel. Mass will be 1:30p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone Street, Salinas, CA.
