Obituary of David Butler David W. Butler, 67, of 277 Prospect St. Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly at 11:35 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, in the emergency room of UPMC Chautauqua . A lifelong area resident, he was born February 23, 1951 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Duane M. and Caryl J. Meehan Butler. He was a 1970 graduate of Jamestown High School and directly enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

After serving for several years with the reserves he went to active duty where he served faithfully until June 30, 1995. He was honorably discharged after 25 years of service as a Petty Officer First Class-SK! -E6.

During his tour of duty he received the Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal for his community volunteer efforts. He was also named the Sailor of the Year in 1983 and 1989. Following his military career he returned to Jamestown and began working for Global Associates as a Safety and Security Officer at the Cassadaga Job Corp for several years.

He was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve Association, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Samuel Derby Post 556, American Legion, Frewsburg, NY, and the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings. He also enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, golfing and talking to people. Surviving are a son; David D. (Jennifer Mason) Butler of Jamestown, NY, a daughter; DawnMarie (Timothy) Kaylor of Shreveport, LA, three grandchildren; Alexa, Amelia and Dean Kaylor all of Shreveport and a brother; Donald L. (Tabetha) Butler of Ashville, NY.

Besides his father Duane who died July 2, 2015, his mother Caryl who died October 10, 2016 he was preceded in death by is wife the former VickiJo Green Butler whom he married October 5, 1974 and who died December 7, 2009 and a brother, Daniel D. Butler who died July 29, 2011. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Gordon Robbins of the First Baptist Church of Falconer will officiate.

Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019, and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Aspire of WNY, 140 Mall Blvd.
