Deborah “Debbie” A. Helus February 08, 1954 – January 23, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries Deborah Ann “Debbie” Helus, 64, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Holton, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Midland Hospice House, with family by her side. Debbie fought a courageous 9-year battle with cancer. Debbie was born February 8, 1954 in Pratt, KS, the daughter of Paul Bryant and Laveta (Gibbens) Bengtson.

She graduated from Hardesty High School in 1972, at Hardesty, OK. She lived in the pan-handle of Oklahoma from 1970-1975, the Holton community from 1975 – 2016 and Topeka since 2016. She worked for the United States Postal Service for over 34 years, after retirement, she worked part-time at Prairie Band Casino in the valet department from 2013 to present.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and attended Larkinburg Christian Church. She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 1367. Debbie married Kevin Jay Helus on September 9, 1987 in Holton.

They celebrated 31 years of marriage. Survivors include her husband, Kevin Helus of the home; her 4 children, Terry Brooks (Ashley) of Crescent, OK, Lacy Beasley (Dave) of Topeka, KS, Corey Helus (Meredith) of Olathe, KS and Kelsey Helus of Lawrence, KS; mother, Laveta Bengtson of Holton, KS; 3 sisters, Pam Bryant of Holton, KS, Paula Lira of Paxico, KS and Judy Childers of Holton, KS; 2 brothers, Cecil Goodrick (Karen) of Utah and Paul Barnes (Amalie) of Germany and 5 grandchildren, Mattie, Kealie and Emerie Brooks, Kian and Macen Beasley. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Bryant; step-father, Marvin Bengtson; brother, Bruce Bryant and sister, Trudy Bryant.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial to follow in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Midland Hospice House or American Cancer Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
