OBITUARY Dennis Elwood Schlerf January 23, 1943 – January 11, 2019 – Funeral Services for Dennis Elwood Schlerf, age 75, of Weaver, AL, will be 2 pm, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Barber and Banyon Allison officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park, 35036 AL-21, in Talladega, AL 35160. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at Chapel Hill.

Mr. Schlerf passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2019. Dennis was born in Baltimore, MD on January 23, 1943 to Elwood and Norma Schlerf. He later moved to Alabama to attend Jacksonville State University.

It was there that he met his loving wife of 53 years, Sherry Cate Schlerf. He graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1969 and retired after 30 years of civilian employment from the Anniston Army Depot as a maintenance management specialist. He loved sports and coached little league for the Weaver community for years.

He also loved being on his farmland and working with his quarter horses. Dennis experience a life transforming illness in 1990 that redirected his work from coaching sports to working in the United Methodist Church both in Weaver and Ohatchee. He was a lay leader and a master teacher in the United Methodist Church.

He was an active member of the church choir and enjoyed singing. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sherry Cate Schlerf; his daughter, Suzanne Schlerf-McIntyre and his son, David Schlerf; his seven grandchildren, Hunter Skelton, Sawyer Skelton, Connor McIntyre, Reese McIntyre, Dillon Schlerf, Joshua Schlerf and Asher Schlerf; and his sister, Cheryl Schlerf McElroy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Norma Schlerf and two brothers, Roger and Richard Schlerf.
