Dennis Barnes, 62, of Lake Odessa, passed away on September 14, 2018 at the Mother Teresa House in Lansing, MI after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on March 12, 1956 to Jack and Mary Jean (Haskins) Barnes in Hastings, MI. Dennis loved nature, especially the time he spent fishing.

Dennis is survived by: brother, Michael (Debra) Barnes of Bellevue, MI; sisters, Vicki (Jeff) Benham-Lackey, Dawn (Steve) Pifer and special sister Beverly Erb; stepmother, Marie Barnes; half-sister, Dawnette (Dale) Michaels; two daughters, Brittany Barnes, Brandy (Chris Helton) Cade; son, Joshua Newcombe; brothers in law Ron Piercefield and Erhard Freitel; special aunts, Joyce Waite and Irene Haskins along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by father, Jack Howard Barnes, mother, Mary Jean French, stepfather, William French, sisters, Sherri Piercefield and Debra Freitel; brother in law, James DK Benham; and niece, Amy Cruz. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful care the Mother Teresa House staff provided Dennis in his final months, especially Tom Fox who befriended Dennis and made sure he found comfort in God, nature and fishing.

Graveside memorial for Dennis will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 11am at the Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa, MI. Following the memorial, a luncheon will be held at Lake Odessa Museum, 1117 Emerson St., Lake Odessa, MI. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Mother Teresa House, P.O Box 13004, Lansing MI 48901.
