Barrett, 69, of Sublette passed away Saturday January 5, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family after his three year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m., in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Kevin Donoho officiating.

Burial will be at Wisner Cemetery with military honors by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Dennis was born October 19, 1949 in Mendota to Keith and Eloise (Mear) Barrett.

He married Sonia Schaefer on December 19, 1990. Dennis was a 1967 graduate of Mendota High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1970 and did two tours in Vietnam.

After returning home he worked at Motor Wheel, was an iron worker for Local 444 in Joliet, and owned and operated Wall to Wall Installers for many years before retiring in December of 2012. He was a San Francisco 49ers fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports when he wasn’t working on cars, spending time with family, drawing his “stickman” cards or riding his Harley with his wife and family members. He is survived by his wife of 28 years Sonia Barrett of Sublette; his parents; one son Blaine (Bria Chandler) Barrett of Sublette; two daughters Jodi (Glen) Hall of Ishpeming, MI; and Heather (Kyle) Zinke of Mendota; one brother Larry (Jeanne) Barrett of Mendota; two sisters Nancy (Robert) Watkin of Peachtree City, GA; and Cheryl (Jerry) Thorne of Sublette; three stepchildren Brad (Liz Hertz) Burkart of Mendota, Brian (Jess Milewski) of Mendota and Beth (Eric Schier) of Sublette; 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
