Obituary for DINA SCOKIN Dina Katzenell Scokin, 87, passed away on October 13, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Dina was born in Munich, Germany to Bernard and Cecilia Katzenell on April 30,1931. She and her brother Alex, along with their parents immigrated to Vienna, Austria during World War II, ultimately making their way to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she spent her youth.
There she met the man of her dreams, Mauricio Scokin, and they wed on December 7, 1951. In 1966, Dina encouraged her young family to immigrate to the United States, where they spent time in Kansas City, MO, Chicago, IL, and Dallas, TX. Dina and Mauricio opened a showroom, Sarah Enterprises, in the Dallas Apparel Market from which they represented several successful women’s accessory companies.
Dina’s innate ability to be at the forefront of new technology was integral to the success of their business. Dina loved animals, especially her dogs; she enjoyed reading mystery novels, crocheting, and watching soap operas. She was a fabulous cook who loved to bring her family together through food – everyone especially enjoyed her gnocchi and sugo, milanesas, empanadas, and her famous flan.
She had a curiosity and hunger for life, which led Dina and her husband on travels around the world. Dina was also an active member of the Jewish community. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Mauricio Scokin, as well as her beloved brother, Alex Katzenell.
Dina is survived by her three children: daughter Carlota (Lotti) M. Halpern and husband, Michael D. Halpern, Kansas City, MO; son, Daniel Scokin and wife, Monica Cintado-Scokin, Nashville, TN; and daughter Davina Beth Scokin, DeRidder, LA. Scokin, Jonathan E. Scokin, Marina Cintado-Scokin, and Lucia Cintado-Scokin, Nashville, TN. She was fortunate to enjoy time with her only great grandchild, Koa Brody Halpern.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff of The Atriums and Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City for their service throughout the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City. She was a recent member of Congregation Beth Shalom since her return to Kansas City to be near family.
