Don William “Bill” Hodson Bill Hodson passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018, surrounded by his family. Bill was born April 9, 1938 to Roy and Ann Hodson. He grew up in Wilson, now named West Haven and attended Wilson Elementary, Wahlquist Jr. High and graduated from Weber High School.
He served in the United States Army for 2 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has served in various callings during his life – Home Teacher, Sunday school, a member of the High Council, Bishopric and High Priest Leadership.
Bill has been involved with horses all his life, making his living shoeing horses. He passed his trade onto all of his sons. He spent many years working at the Ogden Stockyards.
He had an eye for picking good quality horses and also trained horses. He rodeoed from an early age and was a member of the RMRA and PRCA rodeo associations. He competed in Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping and also worked as a pickup man.
Some of his favorite times were spent in his arena with his sons teaching them to rodeo and train their own horses. He loved to hunt with his family and friends. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Bill was a member of the Wasatch Slopes Chariot Association where he was a starter for the cutter and chariot races for close to 50 years. He also started for the State and World Championships. He married Judy Robinson December 1, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was the father of three special sons and daughters-in-law; Clay and Leisa, Brad and Karen, and Justin and Cami. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years; a brother Dean Hodson; a sister Shirley Frost Rhees and brother-in-law Bill Rhees; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Robinson and Kathie Robinson.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Les and Emma Robinson; brothers-in-law, Brent Frost, Kent Robinson, Mike Robinson and sister-in-law Ranae Hodson. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Wilson 5th Ward Chapel at 3271 W. 2550 So. , West Haven, UT.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and prior to the service on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. He will be buried at West Weber Cemetery. The family would like to express gratitude for the compassionate care Bill received from Inspiration Hospice and Visiting Angels Assistance. In lieu of flowers please donate to a favorite charity of your choice or do something kind for your family.
