Robert Randall Nye March 20, 1930 ~ November 18, 2018 Robert (Bob) Randall Nye passed away in the early morning of November 18, 2018. Bob was born in Ogden, Utah on March 20, 1930. His parents were Robert M. and Estella Randall Nye.
From an early age, he played an active role in the local community. Shortly after graduating from Ogden High School, Bob began work at the Ogden Arsenal. From 1951-1953, he served in the U.S. Army, after which he was honorably discharged.
Following his service, Bob began work at Hill Air Force Base. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Ruth Moss. Before starting their family, the two travelled the Northwestern United States and parts of Canada such as Flin Flon with a go-kart strapped to the top of their car to compete in kart racing.
Bob earned many trophies and awards. During the sixties and seventies, Bob owned and operated the Bob Nye Chevron Service Station on 31st and Washington Blvd. During this time he also returned to work at Hill Air Force Base and worked as an inspector for Volvo White Motor.
Later, he began working at the Fred M. Nye clothing store until it closed in 1982. He also was a founding partner in Amtel, a long-distance telephone service, with his brother Jay and friend Bruce Jackson. Bob loved people and had many friends that were dear to him.
He was an avid water- and snow- skier, enjoying the thrill of driving his Sleekcraft at local reservoirs and snowmobiling at Monte Cristo. He also loved spending time with his family and friends in Island Park and West Yellowstone. He liked to hunt and fish, and was one of the original members of the Pintail Duck Club.
He was passionate about cars, motorcycles, and go-karts, returning to race once more in his eighties with his family. Toward the end of his life, Bob spent much of his time visiting his many friends at The Gift House, Warrens, and other places of business in Ogden. He dearly loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Ruth Nye; three children Niki (Tommy) Glasmann, Robert (Theresa) Nye, and Steve (Tiffani) Nye; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three siblings Jay C. (DeeAnn) Nye, Margaret (Fred) Black, and Denice (Terry) Roundy. There will be a celebration of life gathering at Myers Mortuary from 10:00AM to 12:00PM on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 845 Washington Blvd followed by an interment with military honors at 12:30PM at the Ogden City Cemetery.
