Funeral services for Don Robert Trett will be held, 11:00AM, Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Dougherty Baptist Church with Pastors Willard McCartney, Jr. and Alan McCoy officiating. Interment will follow at the Dougherty Cemetery. Don was born January 18, 1940 in Dougherty to the late Doris Howard and Opal Marie (Callis) Trett.

He died Monday, July 23, 2018 in Dougherty, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 5 days. Don and the former Mary Lou Smith were married on September 15, 2001… Read More » in Broken Arrow. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2008.

Don grew up in Dougherty, graduating from Dougherty High School in 1959. In 1976, he moved from Dougherty to Tulsa where he began working as a heavy equipment operator for Standard Industries, which later became APAC Central. In 2008, he and Mary returned to Dougherty to enjoy their retirement.

Throughout his life, Don was an avid fan of horse racing. He spent many years owning and training race horses. He was awarded the “Breeder of the Year Award” by the American Quarter Horse Association in 2005.

He was always well versed on many horses, being able to quote their pedigrees, speed index, and if asked, would give his opinion on each of them, whether it be good of bad. During his years of racing, Don had numerous big wins with many of his horses including, “Opal Wrangler” and “She’s A Showoff”. Don was a faithful member of the Dougherty Baptist Church.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sherry Lynnette Trett of Verdigris, OK and LaDonna Sue Earley of San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren, Brittaney Baker, Kaley Robb, Hunter Osborn, Madison Earley, Courtney Stites, Christina Pletcher and J. Chase Bryant; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as two brothers, Arnold “Fat” Trett & wife Dorothy of Sulphur and Harlie Trett & wife Mary of Costa Rica; and one brother-in-law, Jerry Todd. In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by one sister, Zona Gail (Trett) Todd and three brothers, Joe Howard Trett, Tommy Trett and Jessie Trett.
