Donald’s Obituary Our beloved Donald Gray Hickman was born July 12, 1965 in Forsyth County to James Mattson and Florence Marie Millner Hickman. He departed this earthly life suddenly after a short illness on Saturday April 20, 2019 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC Donald attended Pilot Mountain Elementary, East Surry High and South Stokes High Schools where he graduated in 1984. He played football and was also a proud member of the ROTC program.

Donald always had a love for working. As a young boy he worked at Gilley’s service station on Cook school road in Pilot Mountain doing whatever was needed. He loved his job and being there.

He worked at Baker’s construction for many years in King, NC. Later in life, he worked with his father James, and learned his professional trade in the concrete business. He then became the co-owner of Hickman Concrete LLC as president, with his brother Carlos as vice president .

Many of his affiliates and friends called him “Fred” or” Country”. Donald was called into the body of Christ in 1984 as a born again Christian at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pinnacle, NC under the fellowship of Rev. Lewis R. Crawford.

He also had a spirit of loving and helping others with whomever he came in contact with, no matter what the task may have been. Donald was loved by many people that knew him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his father, James Mattson Hickman, sister, Crystal Lynn Hickman, brother, Anthony ”Scooter” Hickman, paternal grandparents, Nomie and Essie France Hickman and maternal grandparents, Russell and Mary Stewart Millner.

He leaves behind to cherish many dear memories his loving mother, Florence Marie Hickman of Pinnacle, NC; sisters, Theresa(Robert) Mason of Atlanta, GA, Antonia(Edward) Jessup of Pinnacle, NC, Stephanie Hickman of Winston-Salem, NC, Michelle (Ronnie) Moore of Walnut Cove, NC , Lynette(Sidney) Carpenter of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers, James (Angela) Hickman of Tobaccoville, NC, Carlos Hickman of Pinnacle, NC, Lawrence Hickman of Rural Hall, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews including a special nephew, James(Bo) Hickman, cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be held 3:30 pm Saturday April 27, 2019 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. Interment will follow at France Memorial Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinnacle, NC.

The family will receive friends from 3:00pm-3:30 pm at the funeral home.
