Donald J. Bailey, 89, of Blairsville, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018, at Herrin Hospital. Graveside services for Donald, Dorothy and George Bailey, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Blairsville Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Cambria Baptist Church or to the Cambria Food Pantry.

Donald was born on March 6, 1929, in Woodriver, Illinois, to William Alex and Edna Mae (Short) Bailey. He married Dorothy E. Kendsfater on October 29, 1955, in Wonder Lake, Illinois. They shared 62 years before she preceded him in death on November 26, 2017.

He is survived by his son, Tom (Linda) Roe of Pontiac, Illinois; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty (Noel Gene) Loyd of Vienna, Virginia (Frank) Mezo of Herrin, Floyd “Doodle Bug” Bailey of Cambria, Mary Waldron of Herrin, JoAnn (Fred) Walker of Oswego, Kenneth (Diane) Bailey of Cambria, and Edna (Jerry) Wollenweber of Oswego, sisters-in-law, Cindy Bailey of Cambria and Sue Bailey of Herrin; brother-in-law, Michael Miller of Wonder Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; sons, Danny and George Bailey, and Bob Roe; brothers, Jackie Ray Bailey, William “Bill” Bailey, Bobby Bailey, and David Bailey; and sister, Martha Barnett. He enjoyed having coffee with the morning group at Hardees in Herrin.

Donald loved to go watch the car races on Saturday nights. Donald’s family would like to express their thanks to his caregivers, Teressa Charles and her family, Herrin Hospital and their staff, and the workers from Addus, for all of their wonderful care. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements.
