Donald John Grothe, 76, of Pleasant Grove passed away Monday, November 19, 2018. He had suffered with Alzheimer’s disease for the past six and half years. He was born in Los Angeles, California on December 30, 1941 to Donald Herman Grothe and Helen Sue Small.

The family later moved to Anaheim, California where he attended school and graduated from Anaheim High School, having been very active in their baseball and basketball programs. Don attended Fullerton Jr. College briefly before he moved on to Idaho State School of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist for more the 40 years in San Diego, Boise, Idaho and Utah County.

He married his best friend’s sister, Carole Jean Starr on June 27, 1064 and they moved to Idaho while he finished his degree. They have three children. Donald James, Kimberly Lyn and Gregory Aaron.

Don was a kind and gentle man who displayed great humility with his classic smile. He loved his friends and family, they were his life. He loved sports of all kinds and was very athletic.

He could play tennis, golf, baseball and basketball. He especially loved to fly fish in Idaho with his sons, son-in-law and grandsons who came to visit at the family cabin in Island Park. He is survived by his wife, Carole, his son, Greg (Jennifer) Grothe, his daughter Kimberly (Eric) Dunn and daughter-in-law Vivian Grothe.

Grandsons: Landon Grothe, Daniel Grothe, Brenton Dunn, Dakota Grothe, Parker Dunn, Zane Grothe and one granddaughter Jesslyn Dunn. He loved them all dearly. He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Larry) Mays, and brothers Robert and Richard Grothe.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest son, Donald James Grothe. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manila Fourth Ward Mahogany Chapel, 1320 West 3540 North, Pleasant Grove. There will be no general viewing at Don’s request.

Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery, 26 West 600 North (south side-new area behind Alpine School District Building) under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. Condolences may be sent to the family at www. olpinmortuary.com.
