Obituary for Donald P. Steinmark Donald “Donnie” Steinmark, 81 of Kearney, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and close friend Jim Wilson, at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Living Faith Fellowship with Jim Wilson officiating. Donnie was born on May 26th, 1937 to Alex and Mary (Sadd) Steinmark in Kearney, Nebraska.
Don was united in marriage to Carolyn Steinmark and this couple welcomed four children together: Rhonda, Rocky, Rhett, and Regi. The couple later divorced. Later in life, Don had two children with Cindy Ott: Melissa and Derek Ott.
The couple later separated. Donnie had various jobs during his lifetime, he managed a gas station during his early years, then worked for various masonry companies doing brick cleaning. In most recent years, Donnie worked as a bartender.
He had a true compassion for people, he enjoyed visiting and helping others. No matter what generation it was, he enjoyed visiting with all. It was natural for him, he was everyone’s friend.
Donnie also had a very successful hobby as being a stock car driver, for car number 00. He was always winning the trophy dash along with the “A” feature. His family along with his fans wore matching shirts with 00 on the back.
No matter where he traveled, he was always a crowd favorite. Donnie’s number 1 love in his life was his family. He felt blessed to be so involved with his kids and they were blessed to be so close to their dad.
Heaven gained an amazing angel, Donnie fought his battle all the way to the end. He was known as a ray of sunshine with a heart of gold. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Rhonda Bayne and her husband, Rich of York, Nebraska; Rocky Steinmark of Dallas, Texas; Regi Steinmark of Houston, Texas; Melissa Ott and her fiancé, Josh Schroeder of Kearney, and Derek Ott-Steinmark and his wife, Abbi of Kearney; Donnie’s dedicated and sincere friend, Eric Maack, who was like a son; his grandchildren: Nicole Bayne; Brandon Bayne and his wife, Shalee; Kristal Turpen and her husband, Ross; Kinlei Ott and Amarie Ott; his great-grandchildren: Chloe and Ethan Hallett, Lucy, Freya & Havynn Bayne and Oliver Turpen; along with many other relatives and friends.
Donnie was preceded in death by his beloved son, Rhett. Memorials in Donnie’s honor may be directed to the family for later designation. O’Brien-Straatmann-Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
