Obituary for James “Jim” Hammond James L. Hammond, 68 Litchfield, NE James L. “Jim” Hammond, 68, of Litchfield died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, October 26th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. Father Richard Piontkowski will be officiating.

Interment will follow at Hazard Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday with a vigil starting at 7:00 pm at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Litchfield Fire & Rescue.

James LeRoy Hammond was born September 27, 1950 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Robert and LaRue (Hauck) Hammond. He received his education from Litchfield High School. Jim attended Kearney State College for two years.

Jim was united in marriage to Judy Tesmer on December 5, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pleasanton, NE. To this union four children were blessed: Sonya, Jeffrey, Brian and Rachel. Jim and Judy settled in Litchfield where Sonya, Jeffrey and Brian were born while enjoying life on the farm raising hogs.

In 1981 the family moved to Mirabile, Missouri to manage Gentry Duroc Farms and welcome Rachel to the family. In 1988 the family moved back to Litchfield and Jim took over the Pioneer Seed Business his father had built. James worked as a Pioneer seed dealer for 30 plus years.

For the past seven years, James designed, manufactured and sold the “Flipper” through J Hammond Enterprises. He was a hard worker his whole life and a dedicated man to his job. James had a friendly personality and never knew a stranger.

Jim and Judy belonged to St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Hazard, NE. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Hammond of Litchfield; his children, Sonya Griffith and her husband, Mark of Kearney, Jeffrey Hammond and his wife, Samantha of Broken Bow, Nebraska and Rachel Chestnut of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Mindy and Falicia Shepardson and Alexander Brian Chestnut and step-grandson Damien Chestnut; brother, Edward Hammond and his wife, Debra of Riverdale, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by his son, Brian Hammond; his parents, Robert and LaRue Hammond; brother, Steven Hammond and sister, Trudy M. Day.
