Obituary for George “Gordon” Eggers Gordon Eggers, 69 of Kearney, died Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Kearney First United Methodist Church. The Rev.

Melody Adams will officiate. Interment will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. George “Gordon” Eggers was born June 15, 1949 in Lexington, Nebraska to George and Elphe (Baugher) Eggers. He received his education from Crawford High School graduating with the class of 1967.

In 1971 he received his bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College and later his master’s degree from Kearney State College. Gordon was united in marriage to Betty Dyer on May 29, 1976 at Kearney First United Methodist Church and later enjoyed raising their two children: Eric and Tim. Gordon began his teaching career in the fall of 1971 in Davenport, Nebraska.

He pursued a life educating others in the areas of math and industrial arts, teaching at Bruning, Davenport and Sandy Creek, retiring in 2004. Following his retirement, Gordan continued substitute teaching and then taught Industrial Technology at Litchfield from 2006-2013. Gordon was a member of Kearney First United Methodist Church, the Lion’s Club in Davenport, City Council, Cub Scouts and numerous other organizations.

Gordon’s hobbies included woodworking, camping, fishing, and golfing. He built both family homes, many pieces of furniture, toys and a grandfather clock. He also was an avid Husker fan.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Betty Eggers of Kearney; sons Eric and Tim Eggers and Tim’s significant other, Amanda Fells; grandchildren Josh, Taylor, Jaxson, Oliver and Nora; sister Sandra Abbot; brothers Randy Eggers and Jeff Eggers; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Russell Eggers and sister Marlene Mohler.
