Obituary for Wayne C. Sikes Wayne C. Sikes, 89 Kearney resident Wayne C. Sikes, 89, of Kearney died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, October 24th at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. James DeLoach and Rev.

Doug Gaunt officiating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided by Offutt Air Force Base. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Peterson Senior Center, Lutheran Hour Radio Broadcast and Aseracare Hospice. Condolences may be shared online at www. orsfh.com.

Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Wayne Carol Sikes was born February 10, 1929 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Carl and Nora (Webster) Sikes. He moved to New Castle, Wyoming at the age of 11 years old.

In 1946, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed at the Kearney Airbase. While stationed in Kearney, he met the love of his life, Dorothy DeLaet. On January 1, 1949, Wayne and Dorothy were united in marriage at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney.

Wayne was honorably discharged from the Air Force in May of 1950. Following his military discharge, Wayne worked for several places, including The State of Nebraska, Nielson Chevy and Keenan’s Beverages. Wayne was a longtime employee at Rockwell, working from November of 1960 until they closed in 1985.

He then began working at Inter-Motion until his retirement in 1994. Wayne enjoyed being involved in Scouting, fishing and hunting. Above all, he enjoyed traveling with his family.

Wayne was a 60-year member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was active in several different activities. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy Sikes of Kearney; sons Thomas Sikes and wife Vickie, Mike Sikes and wife Charlene, David Sikes and wife Tammy, and Gary Sikes; daughter-in-law Diane Sikes; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters Lucille Wilson and Shirley Naab; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Betty and Willy Sorensen, Ed and Connie DeLaet, Audrey DeLaet and Al Warner; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Nettie Sikes and Nora and George Schoenberner; sister Emma Lea Lashen; brother Carl Sikes; son Douglas Sikes; two infant grandchildren and several aunts and uncles.
