Donald R. Miller, age 93, of York Springs, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born Monday, August 24, 1925 in York Springs the son of the late Gilbert E. and Phoebe (Kennedy) Miller. Don was the last surviving member of the York Springs High School Class of 1943, where he served as class president.

He retired from Shelby Mutual Insurance Co. after many years of service as well as Washington National Insurance Co. Don had worked at the former Pittenturf… Funeral Home in York Springs and had driven bus for Wolf’s Bus Lines. Don was committed to his community and his family. He was a member of York Spring United Methodist Church, where he held many offices, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir.

He was a member York Springs Lions Club where he held several positions; President, Secretary, Zone Chairman, and Deputy District Governor in 14C. He was presented the Melvin Jones Award for the Lions International. He was a life member of York Springs Fire Company, past president of Ye Olde Sulphur Spa Historical Society, and a member of York Springs Senior Citizens.

He delivered Meals on Wheels in the York Springs area for many years. Don was a member of Hebron Lodge #465, F.&A.M. in New Oxford, Harrisburg Consistory, and Zembo Shrine. He was past president of the Harrisburg Claims Manager Council, past president of the Harrisburg Claims Association, past chairman of the York-Adams Heart Association, past secretary of the board of directors of the PA State Heart Assoc.

Don was past president of the Adams County Cancer Society, and a member of the York Springs Odd Fellows Lodge 211. When his children were young, Don coached Little League Baseball. His teams won several area championships.

He was active in the PTA at Bermudian Springs Schools, where he served as president. His wife, Cathryn L. (Slaybaugh) Miller passed away in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Kay M. and husband Chalmer Helm of York Springs, his son, Kenneth C. Miller of Dillsburg, three granddaughters: Wendy Yinger and Stephanie Itterly of York Springs, and Kayla Betz of Dillsburg, seven great-grandchildren: Trevor and Chloe Yinger, Madison and Taylor Itterly, and Connor, Carter, and Corbin Betz.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Merle and Harold Miller and three sisters, Dorothy Wagner, Mildred Trostle and Ruthie Miller. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 17 at York Spring United Methodist Church, 840 Trolley Rd.

, York Springs, with Rev. Trisha Guise officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, January 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the church and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
