BUNK–Donald Eugene Bunk was born on July 21, 1945, and died December 16, 2018, at his home in Green Cove Springs with loved ones at his side. Donald was born in Trenton, Michigan, coming to Florida as an infant. He was born to George and Myrtice Bunk.

Donald married Wanda Crews Bunk and had two children: Donald M. Bunk married to Julie (Ethriedge) Bunk, and Brenda Bunk Williamson married to Greg Williamson. With five Grandchildren: Jeremy Watkins married to Kim Watkins; Emily Williamson, Elizabeth Williamson, Andrew Williamson, Carissa Bunk and 1 Great Grandchild: Cutter Watkins Don had two brothers: Duane G. Bunk (deceased) and Robert P. Bunk. Survived by many family members of cousins, nephews and nieces.

Donald joined the Florida Air National Guard at age 17 while still attending Ribault High School. He worked at Jacksonville Shipyards and Hudson Pulp and Paper before becoming a civilian employee at the FL Air National Guard, serving 39 years before retiring. During his career, he was an aircraft mechanic, a supervisor of tire and wheel shop, an alert crew-chief, and NCOIC in charge of Honor Duties Guard.

Donald appreciated all the different aircraft that the Guard had flown over the years. He designed and had manufactured a unit coin that displayed silhouettes of all the aircraft that the unit had flown PAST AND PRESENT on one side and reverse side displaying the latest F-15 Eagle aircraft with Florida’s lightning bolts on intakes and other symbolic items. He enjoyed finding ways to display his pride in this unit.

So coffee cups of beautiful glass design with gold trim and plastic everyday mugs were made with unit’s name and logos. Before retiring, Donald was assigned as NCOIC of the FL Air National Guard Base Honor Guard. He found it extremely rewarding to pay final honors to fellow servicemen and thank the families for the contributions of their deceased loved ones.

He had 80 Guardsmen fully trained and uniformed to do military honors at his retirement. Don designed & had manufactured a Military Honors coin for the unit. Don was patriotic in or out of uniform.

He had great respect for the flag and what it represents. He did programs at elementary school teaching flag etiquette and demonstrating proper flag folding involving the students. Services for Donald will be at Hibernia Baptist Church, Fleming Island where he came to know and accept Christ as his savior.
