Doris M. Free, 89, of Newton died on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Newton Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Diabetes Association may be left at the funeral home. Doris, the daughter of Plas James and Patricia Mae (Buckner) Hulsey was born on February 22, 1929 in Judsonia, Arkansas. Growing up she was a hard worker on her family’s farm.

On January 21, 1950, Doris was united in marriage with Jesse Free in North Little Rock, Arkansas. They moved to Newton where Doris would work as a Pharmacy Clerk for many years. Doris and Jesse were blessed with one son, Michael.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Red Hat Club. Doris loved to flower garden and was a meticulous housekeeper. Doris is survived by her son, Michael (Janis) Free of Newton; grandchildren, Joseph (Amy) Free of Newton and Joshua (Casey) Free of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Andrew, and Kaitlyn; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Logan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse Free; and four sisters and two brothers.
